Paul Humphreys in 1984
Paul Humphreys (Paul David Humphreys, b. 27 February 1960) is, together with Andrew McCluskey, one of the two founding members of Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark. He is the group's main keyboard player and programmer. Although he usually provides backing vocals, he sings lead vocals on certain songs written by himself, for example Souvenir, (Forever) Live and Die, Never Turn Away and What Have We Done. He has also co-written many other tracks with McCluskey, including Electricity, Messages and Tesla Girls.
Having formed OMD with school friend McCluskey in 1978, he broke away from the partnership at the end of the 1980s, leaving McCluskey with the group name. He then went on to form his own group The Listening Pool together with Martin Cooper and Malcolm Holmes, also former members of OMD. Later, he also recorded and performed as Onetwo with Claudia Brücken, his partner at the time. He re-united with McCluskey in 2005, effectively reforming the group.
Humphreys has been married to American citizen Maureen Udin, a former dancer who he met while on tour in the US in the early 1980s. She is credited as Maureen Humphreys on some OMD releases. He is currently married to Lithuanian Rūta Degutytė.
