Of All the Things We've Made (Humphreys/McCluskey) is an OMD song originally released as a second track on the B-side of the 12" version of Maid of Orleans in January 1982, and later included as the final track on the Dazzle Ships album, released in March 1983.
Background[]
In an interview in Smash Hits in January 1982, AM stated, "The night before the last British tour began, me and Paul were in the studios until 3:30 in the morning recording what we both thought then would be the last song we would ever write. We'd had enough". The song in question was probably Of All the Things We've Made.
1982 release[]
Both versions of the Maid of Orleans sleeve state 'Experiments in Vertical Takeoff' as the bonus track, although such a track has never been recorded. The Summer 1982 Newsletter stated: "We have not actually written a song called "Experiments in Vertical Take-off". The sleeve for the Maid of Orleans 12" had to be made very much in advance of the release date and we changed our mind about the song's title in the intervening time."[1] Of All the Things We've Made was coupled with another new track, Navigation for the 12". Navigation alone features on the 7".
1983 release[]
Of All the Things We've Made was also part of the group's fourth Peel session recorded in 1983, prior to the release of the Dazzle Ships album, where it features as the closing track. The song was not played during the album tour, and was not performed live until the Dazzle Ships/Architecture & Morality concert at the Royal Albert Hall on 09 May 2016. It has since been played regularly, notably on the Punishment of Luxury tour.

- The Maid of Orleans single was the last record to be released on the Dindisc label.
- Of All the Things We've Made is the only song to feature on two separate remastered and expanded album re-issues.
- Another version was recorded for a 1984 Radio 1 session but has never been officially released.
