For the audio recordings of this concert see: Live at Leigh Rock Festival '79
Venue: Leigh Festival, UK

Date: Monday (Bank Holiday), 27 August 1979
Notes[]
'Zoo Meets Factory Halfway' - final day of the Festival which brought together bands from Zoo Records (Liverpool) and Factory (Manchester) record labels. Leigh in Lancashire was deemed to be located approximately halfway between the two cities.
The event was badly advertised and so poorly attended, also considering its remote location.
Other bands appearing: Joy Division, A Certain Ratio, Teardrop Explodes, Echo & The Bunnymen et al.

Festival announcement in Sounds, 18 Aug 1979 (via SoundsClips on Twitter)

A bootleg recording later found its way onto a 2xCD set in 2006, on Interstate Records [1], and also onto digital streaming platforms.[2]
This is the earliest known recording of an OMD live performance. No further live recordings exist of VCL XI.

Reviews[]
- Sounds, 08 September: "..an open air event is hardly the place for OMITD to achieve their full atmospheric potential.[...] Musically they were fine but the sight of two blokes playing keyboards isn't exactly the perfect formula for a successful festival set.[..] .. the bouncing, dancing, vibrating sound of OMITD stands leagues above [..] Numan or the hip pitiful throb of The Tiller Boys."
